We had been brewing kombucha at home for many years, trying different flavors and experimenting with different methods, and just having a great time with it. It was something we liked to do, along a myriad of other hobbies. However, in January 2014 an epiphany hit us: There was really no great locally brewed kombucha available! All of the kombucha in the stores was from the west coast, and, quite frankly, they weren't very good. So we set out to start our own kombucha company.
We began to work on developing our business plan, our formulas, and everything else that goes into a commerical kombucha operation. After several months, our house began to look like a mad scientist laboratory, so we decided to take the plunge and lease our first commercial space in June 2014. We continued to work on getting off the ground through the rest of the year, while maintaining our full time careers until December when we realized something had to give. We're either all in or not, so Tom left his position and started working on COMKOM full time. Tricia (the brains behind the outfit!) maintained her job so we could still eat, something we'd grown used to doing. She still keeps a hand in everything we do and is integral to our success. We had hoped to launch by February 1, 2015 but that day came and passed, so then it was March 1. That too came and passed, so then it was going to be April 1, come hell or high water. And then, ...we did. We launched April 1, 2015 (No Foolin!) Since then it has been a constant battle to keep up with demand as our legion of COM KOM fans keeps growing bigger and bigger. We're excited to keep bringing our Missouri customers awesome kombucha and can't wait to bring COM KOM to all corners of the Midwest! Cheers! Tom & Tricia |
